Summary
- The report provides a solid introduction to Gabon's petroleum and mining sectors, but this contextual information would benefit greatly from the inclusion of production and price data.
- Unlike its predecessor, the report clearly indicates which companies and commodities are included and which are excluded.
- More companies reported than were selected by the EITI committee. In light of this willingness, the committee may wish to review the threshold for participation.
- The report does not explain why only three companies were required to submit audited data.
- The report provides little information on the reconciliation process. This could be because this information is missing, or because there was little effort at reconciliation to report.
- Payments by companies to a diversification fund are included, but the report has no information on how these resources are used.
- The EITI committee should encourage more regular reporting and reduce the lag between the data year and the year of publication.
